Did you know that Ivy City measures 10-20 degrees hotter than other DC communities? It’s due to ‘heat island effect,’ caused by environmental injustice which has left the neighborhood with little tree cover and an overabundance of paved surfaces. Extreme heat is just one of the issues that will be addressed through the upcoming Ivy City Resilience Plan, led by DC Department of Energy and Environment. Join Empower DC and Ivy City residents to kick off the planning process with a community event featuring food, music and artwork by young neighborhood residents who are envisioning ‘A Cool Ivy City.’
