Jonathan W. Hutto, Sr., embraced his calling for advocacy and building grassroots power as an undergraduate student at Howard University in the late 1990's.  Since that time, Jonathan has consistently organized and fought for Justice with front-line communities specifically against racism, poverty and militarism as an extension of the struggle to eradicate all forms of oppression.  Jonathan's work for Police Accountability in Prince George's County Maryland was recognized by both the County Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and the Prince George's Social Innovation Fund.  Jonathan's commitment to Peace and to end all Wars was recognized by the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS) with the Letelier Moffit Human Rights Award in 2007.

Today, Jonathan leads Empower DC's Racial Equity Initiative along with building membership and supporting our organizing campaigns throughout the District.  Jonathan is a Human Rights Defender, Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Friend, Comrade and eternal Social Justice Warrior.
