The REACH Act Meets the Lived Experience

This event is organized and hosted by the Racial Equity Cohort, a group of Empower DC members who have been working over the last three years to uplift understanding, policy and action to advance racial equity.

In 2020, the DC Council passed the Racial Equity Achieves Results Act (REACH Act), a policy which establishes new DC government bodies that are responsible for advancing racial equity. We will be joined by the author of the REACH Act, Councilman Kenyan McDuffie, as well as Dr. Brian McClure, Director of the new Council Office on Racial Equity and Dr. Amber Hewitt, DC’s first ever Chief Equity Officer.

We will also hear from Empower DC members about how systemic racial inequity has impacted their lives, and discuss ways to advance racial equity within the REACH Act and beyond.
