Preserving the living legacy of the Black-led struggle for equity and justice in DC
Empower DC’s DC Legacy Project preserves community history, including historical sites, to continue the living legacy of the Black-led struggle for land, housing and justice. Currently, the DC Legacy Project is committed to restoring the historically landmarked buildings at Barry Farm, which we won historic protection for in 2020, the last remaining structures at this public housing site that has been cleared for redevelopment. With a sizable advisory team of historians, preservationists, architects and former residents, we are building support to create a community cultural center at the site dedicated to commemorating history, community development and community organizing.
