Sebrena Rhodes is a DC Native, born and raised in the Deanwood area of Washington DC. She has her associate degree in early childhood education. Sebrena worked for 11 years as lead Head Start Teacher at Rowan-Salisbury Community Action Agency in Salisbury, North Carolina. In DC, she serves as a Community Organizer with Empower DC for five and a half years in the Ivy City, Ward 5 neighborhood where she is a resident, served on the Community Advisory Board for Unity Health Care, a leader with Friends of Crummell, and is currently serving a third term as ANC Commissioner for the Ivy City community Single Member District (5D02). Sebrena is a mom of 6 and has 10 grandchildren who she is very passionate about. Standing up for the rights of the people has always been her beliefs along with her friends and neighbors.

Friends of Crummell and Empower DC is working diligently to help The Department of General Services and The Department of Parks and Recreation with the renovation of the Historic Alexander Crummell School. This will restore the school as a community center in the Ivy City community. 

Fighting a severe case of Environmental Injustice to have a chemical plant with no air permit from the Department of Energy of Environment, named National Engineering Products Inc., which has operated in Ivy City since 1930s, continues to do so today, and using carcinogenic chemicals that have been and continues to be emitted into the air of our residential community. 

Assisted the Office of Planning along with the community to develop the Ivy City’s Small Area Plan
